Sebastiaan 'Bas' Coppes
Senior Consultant with Plan B Marine Solutions

A graduate Maritime Officer of the Maritime Institute de Ruijter with a double Bachelor degree in Nautical Science and Engineering, Sebastiaan (Bas) Coppes is the senior consultant of Plan B marine solutions a salvage & marine consultancy and expert witness firm in Houston.

After graduating spent several years onboard the famous Dutch ocean going salvage tugs and large hopper dredgers. Upon returning to shore worked for Damen Shiprepair in Rotterdam responsible for estimating repair and conversion projects.

The inevitable return to sea came in the way of joining SMIT Salvage as a Salvage Master, responsible for the safe execution of salvage & wreck removal around the world among which major offshore salvage operations during the Rita & Katrina year in the Gulf of Mexico.

Bas joined the startup Mammoet Salvage from heavy lift specialist Mammoet in 2007 and founded Mammoet Salvage Americas, located in Houston, in 2010. In this role he was overall responsible for many salvage operations throughout the Americas among which one of the biggest and most challenging in Mexico.

Won a 4 year long arbitration over unpaid invoices against four major underwriters in New York securing a $ 28 million dollar award.

In 2017 joined Global Diving & Salvage from Seattle as their Director Salvage & Wreck removal and was responsible for the international projects among which a wreck removal in the environmental sensitive Galapagos and USCG hurricane response for Harvey.

His wide experience base and diverse knowledge of operational, commercial and legal aspects makes him the go to professional when things aren’t going as planned.
