People who know the transportation industry make up ITMA’s Board of Directors. With experience in many facets of logistics and communications, the ITMA board is uniquely suited to guide the association.

 

President

Mitch Heiserman is a 1986 Graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine with Military Sealift Command and Maersk Line, Ltd. from 1986 to 1992 and was U.S. Coast Guard licensed as a Chief Mate, Unlimited Tonnage and as Master, 1600 Gross Registered Tons upon Oceans.

Mitch has been employed in Stevedoring and Marine Terminal operations in Houston since 1992 and worked for Fairway Terminal Corporation as a Vessel Superintendent until 1997. He then joined Gulf Stream Marine, Inc. and became General Superintendent in 1998, Director of Operations in 2011, and is currently General Manager.

Immediate Past President

Brooks Elliott has spent the last six years selling trucking and logistics services throughout the Gulf Coast. Prior to his current 
position as vice president of business development at Pinch and PGC Logistics he was area sales manager for Forward Air Inc.

Brooks’ extensive knowledge of the regional transportation community and the relationships he has forged with oil and gas service companies, shippers, freight forwarders and other carriers has kept him moving forward in the fast paced era of global trade.

Brooks completed his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University in 1996 and currently volunteers with numerous City of Houston non-profits and organizations.

Charis Hansen has been in the maritime industry for over 25 years and has extensive experience as an ocean carrier.

Charis started with Atlantic RoRo Carriers in 2009 and is now Vice President, Sales and Customer Service for the Gulf Region.

She has been on the board since 2012 serving two terms as Hospitality Director and was elected Membership Director in 2016 before becoming Vice President in 2017.

Secretary

David Brightwell has spent the last 25 years involved in the maritime industry. He has held a number of high level positions with ocean carriers. Prior to his current position as regional sales manager for Hanjin Logistics, Inc. and Lykes Lines, he was district sales manager for Yang Ming. He was also local manager for Sea-Land Pacific Division.

Most of David’s concentration has been in the project field with a concentration in the oil and gas industry. Lately, much of his success has been from the over size and out of gauge type cargo. David was also part of the team that allowed Houston to become a Coffee Exchange Port.

In addition to serving as ITMA’s Secretary and a member of the Board, he is also active in the Bay Area Recovery Center and the Bay Area Club. These organizations are devoted to helping individuals in the recovery process for drugs and alcohol. Through the leadership of his wife, he is also involved with autistic children.

David has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Georgia College. In addition to his undergraduate degree, he also attended Atlanta Law School.

Treasurer

Cheryl G. Fee has over thirty-five years’ experience in the logistics industry in Houston, beginning in 1975 with Fritz Companies (now UPS) where she began in the accounting department and ended as Ocean Export Manager, General Commodities Division.

In 1980, she and other partners founded WTS of Houston, Inc. (dba WTS, a Global Logistics Company) where she was Executive Vice President and served in various capacities over the years including Operations, Finance & Accounting and Human Resources. WTS was acquired by Agility Holdings, Inc. in April 2007 and Cheryl continued working for them until December 2008.

In September 2010, she and two other of the former owners of WTS founded Proven Logistics Solutions LLC, a company that is dedicated to providing training to the logistics industry. In addition to classroom and online offerings, they also provide custom-designed on-site training and consulting services.

In addition to serving as ITMA’s Treasurer and Board Member, she is a member of VICTORY (a branch of the American Cancer Society) where she served as a member of the Executive Board and was Treasurer of the 2012 Cattle Baron’s Ball and 2013 Treasurer of VICTORY; she was a member of the Board of the Awty International School Alumni Parents Association; served as Alumna Representative for her undergraduate college; and was a volunteer at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital.
Cheryl has Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wesleyan College, Macon, Georgia, and an MBA from the University of Houston.

Communications Director

Myriam Diephaus is the Director Global Events within the  BBC Chartering organization with 10+ years experience in Corporate Event Planning and Marketing. She is a detail-oriented professional with great organizational skills and strengths in worldwide event creation, planning and execution.

Born and raised in Germany, Myriam started her career in the shipping industry with Bruno Bischoff Reederei in Bremen where her organizational talent was put to use as Chartering Assistant. When BBC Chartering was founded in 1997, she assisted the CEO in his daily tasks while obtaining her degree in Human Resources and adding the position of Human Resource Manager to her scope of work.

The growing organization presented more opportunities and Myriam seized the opportunity to streamline the marketing approach of the group while she graduated in Economics and Marketing. She worked several years as Marketing Manager in BBC’s Headquarter in Leer, Germany, before moving to Houston in 2009 for her current position.

Golf Tournament Director

Josh Rollin is a native Houstonian and proud alumnus of the University of Houston.  His involvement on campus with the Supply Chain Industrial Distribution Organization (SIDO) launched his career in International Freight Forwarding and is now a Strategic Analyst at Agility Project Logistics, Inc.

Hospitality Director

Christie Brush is the Senior Account Executive for Avalon Risk Management’s Houston office. Christie has more than 26 years experience in the risk management industry. She is a licensed insurance agent licensed in the States of Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, New Mexico, Louisiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Her expertise in Risk Management includes Bonds, Cargo Insurance, and Professional liability for the logistics industry.

Christie is an active member of several professional organizations throughout Texas and Louisiana. In addition to sales, her focus includes cultivating client relationships, and educating the industry regarding Logistics Risk Management. Christie resides in Humble, TX, and has a family of 3 children, and 5 grandchildren.

Membership Director 

Kayla Yates is the Sales and Marketing Manager for HubTrucker, Inc. Kayla began working for HubTrucker in 2008 as a Logistics Consultant and transitioned into the Operations Manager overseeing the daily operations as the company grew.

In 2013, Kayla accepted her promotion to Sales and Marketing Manager and has been a key part in the company's growing success.

Kayla is involved with several associations and networking events within the logistics industry. She also volunteers her time to a scholarship committee supporting the local high schools in her area. Kayla has been a member of ITMA for 3 years and this is her 1st year serving as the Membership Director.

Programs Director 

 

Diana Davila brings UTC Overseas customers well over two decades of experience in project cargo logistics services and export operations management support. For the previous 13 years, she held positions of increasing responsibility with a major project logistics organization, most recently as the firm’s Vice President for Project Operations.

In that capacity, she was responsible for staff operations at three prime service centers in Texas and Louisiana in support of a major oil and gas project. Services included assisting new and existing clients in supply chain process improvements; meeting with clients and third - party service providers to develop complete and efficient procedures and information flow; management of project reporting and service levels; monitoring adherence to project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and continually pursuing opportunities for improvements in operational efficiencies and cost savings.

Over the past 7+ years, she provided operational support to nearly 20 major oil and gas - related projects, located in the US, Middle East, Asia, Gulf of Mexico, South America and the Caribbean.

She is the founder of the newly formed Women’s in Logistics Leadership Group. She is the Chair of the Lonestar Logistics Advisory Committee and eagerly looks for other opportunities within the community where she can serve to further the growth of individuals in their career.

Scholarship Director

Sherry Barry, Account Executive for Staff Solve/Staff Logistics, was elected as membership director in 2010. Sherry brings to the board over 15 years in customer relations experience, hands on business experience from having owned her own telecommunications company, extensive knowledge of the freight forwarding industry and strong business relationships in logistics throughout the community.

Sherry is also an active member of other state-wide and national logistics organizations.

Sherry attended The University of Monticello at Arkansas and has been a resident of Houston for over 18 years.

Special Events Director

Loren Bruening has over 35 years experience in the transportation industry- working in international freight forwarding, trucking, and logistics - focusing on customer service & sales and marketing.  After a 19-year career at Palletized Trucking Inc., he decided to work for himself under the name FR8AGENT. 

FR8AGENT is just what it says - a freight agent.  FR8AGENT is the newest agent terminal in Houston for NDS - National Drayage Services -  with their HotShot division providing quality service, They are a platinum agent for Matson Logistics and also offer truck brokerage through NDS. FR8AGENT provides project support and transportation solutions for several customers focusing on their heavy haul needs.  What Loren enjoys most about working as FR8AGENT, is that he’s not tied to any one entity to service your transportation needs.

Loren was born in Panama City, FL. He has family there and still vacations there yearly.  He moved to Houston and went to work in freight forwarding right out of high school. He has lived and worked in the Houston area ever since.  Loren has volunteered in Kingwood Forest Cove Baseball Association and Upward Basketball.  He has recently joined ITMA and is extremely excited about it.
